How a call runs

    The call

    Model and serial from the plate behind the kick panel, what the appliance does and does not do, and any code exactly as it reads. Ten minutes of that decides what rides out on the van, and it is the single biggest reason a job finishes in one visit rather than two.

    The readings

    Manifold pressure hot and cold, spark output and flame-sense return burner by burner, cavity temperature logged against the set point through a full preheat, blower draw at every speed against the rating plate. The control board is the last thing suspected, not the first.

    The verdict

    The fault, the part, and an honest read on the rest of the appliance — including the cases where a repair is not the right answer. Factory-approved parts where they exist. Nothing is ordered before you have agreed to a figure.

These are the six that come up most, answered the way they get answered on the call rather than the way a brochure would answer them.

The oven heats but never quite reaches the set point. Is that the sensor?

Sometimes, and it is the cheapest thing to rule out, so it goes first: resistance cold, then at heat, against the curve for the platform. But a cavity that stalls short is just as often a bake element that has lost part of its length, a convection motor that is turning slowly, or a door that no longer seals along the top. Those are told apart by logging the cavity against the set point through a whole preheat, not by reading the display.

One burner lights slower than the others. Does that matter?

It is worth looking at. A slow light is usually a spark electrode that has gone porous, a burner port pattern partly blocked, or manifold pressure that drops when several burners are open. None of those is dramatic on its own, and all of them get worse. The check takes a few minutes with a manometer and a mirror.

The hood hums but the kitchen still fills with smoke.

On the long horizontal duct runs common in the flat-roofed houses on this side of town, that is usually the duct rather than the blower — a crushed section, too many elbows, or a roof cap damper that has never fully opened. Saturated baffles will do it too. The blower amp draw at every speed against the rating plate says quickly which half of the problem you have.

Do you work on an appliance still covered by the manufacturer?

You can call, but it is usually the wrong move. Anything still covered belongs with a factory-authorised provider, so the cover is not put at risk. We are independent and hold no manufacturer appointment of any kind.

How does the service call work?

Can you get a 60-inch range out of a Weston kitchen?

Usually yes, and usually it is not necessary. Burners, igniters, spark modules, elements, sensors, hinges and door glass are all serviceable in place. Where a range genuinely has to come forward — a blower change behind it, say — the flooring and the gas connection are checked before anything is disturbed.
